Starsky's

Argggh - I have driven by both locations of Starsky's more times than I wish to think about not realizing that it was a haven of Eastern European tastiness.

For lunch, Ian and I picked up cheddar cheese & potato perogies, some dill cabbage and two cabbage rolls with a mystery European fruity drink for the low low price of $9! Nice!

The deli counter with meats and cheese looked pretty stellar and busy...I'll be back!

Artisan

For a quick meal, we head to Artisan bakery on Islington. It's not extremely cheap, but still a decent deal for hopefully moderately healthy food (ie there are vegetables). For about $20, we get 1 large chicken-pesto panini, an apple, pickle x 2, a piece of french bread, a half grilled veggie & cheese panini and an arugula salad topped with good stuff like roasted veggies, candied pecans and cheese.

Also good are the turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich and the bbq chicken-mushroom pizza. Forget the regular panini bread and go with multi-grain or molasses.

Montreal Smoked Meat = Not So Good

While in Montreal, I had a smoked meat sandwich. I found it to be rather gross tasting with a odd texture.

More veggies for me next time!

Smoked meat may give you cancer too - who wants that???

Katz's Deli

Last night we had a little kayak meeting at Katz's deli near Yorkdale. They have a delightful little room perfect for these kind of events.

They ran out of smoked meet so I went with a corned beef on rye with a side of dill pickle. I found the pickles a touch watery, but the sandwich was pretty good. The meat was perhaps a bit dry, but maybe that is the nature of corned beef? Who really knows since I don't think I've ever had it.

For my $7.50 sandwich, it was a horrendous amount of meat - far more than you would ever want to eat! I ended up shoveling some off!
