As always, this Vietnamese joint does not disappoint. Get there early to avoid the weekday lunch mob.
44 with pork (bun, bbq pork and spring roll) for $6.95 is a bargain.
17 pho (beef) is also a co-worker favorite for a similar bargain price.

Pho 24
In October I ate a lot of phở. Some pho was cheap, some pho was pricier but in general it was all tasty. I don't have anything against chains so I did check out one popular chain, Pho24, a few times. Checking their website they have restaurants popping up everywhere and not just in Vietnam. Apparently they're also in Australia, Cambodia, Singapore, Korea ... so check it out.
Anyway, as suggested by the name the chain focuses on Pho. I generally stuck with well done and less fatty cuts of beef. These never disappointed and the results were reasonably consistent across the different franchises I went to. I'm no phở snob though so refined palettes may disagree about the consistency.
Once when I felt like spending a lot ($5) I got a combo which included spring rolls (nem ran or some variation thereof) and a pop. Unfortunately, the spring rolls weren't spectacular.
Overall, I liked the chain and I'd go again. My only complaint as usual was the price. Street pho or even non-chain restaurant pho can be obtained for significantly less. Sure those places usually don't have AC so when you've just lost your body weight in sweat, paying a little more for hot pho that you can eat in a cool place doesn't seem like a terrible trade-off.
One partial regret is that I never tried chicken pho (phở gà) . I always planned to save it for some time when I felt the need for Vietnam's answer to dieta de pollo. While it's fortunate I didn't need this solution, I might have liked to try it to see how it stacks up.

Big Bowl (Mississauga)
Some co-workers and I went for my very belated birthday lunch. I picked Big Bowl Vietnamese on Dundas between Churchill and Erin Mills. I have been once before and had a veggie tofu type stir-fry and it was ok.
I thought that I would stray away from that and went with bbq chicken + spring roll vermicelli. They have some sprouts and greens in there too (mainly cilantro). Comes with a side of fish sauce that I didn't really use. Vicki pretty much scared me off of it due to how it is made. I mixed it all up, and threw on some sauce from a ketchup type bottle. It may have been "seafood" or "hoison". Hard to say if it was any less sketchy than the fish sauce, but regardless, the tasty factor was high.
For $6.50 (I think, thanks AK for the b-day treat), it was a horrendous amount of food. Pretty much a whole chicken on there + a rather large spring roll. I didn't really get around to eating the noodles, but they were tasty too.
The place was absolutely packed, even on the Thursday!

Big Bowl
I went out with the work crowd to Big Bowl (I think?) on Dundas between Churhill and Erin Mills. The place is a vietnamese place that seemed to have some Thai stuff. As a general rule of thumb, I I avoid vietnamese food due to the extreme meatiness, but this place actually had a 4-5 item veggie section.
Vicky, who seems to be sort of an authority on pho, thought her dish was good. Two others had vermicelli and they seemed to like it. I had tofu and veggies on rice and it didn't have a heck of alot of flavor, although the fried tofu was fantastic. I think I made an ordering mistake and should have gotten the veggie pho like Anne recommended. I would give this place a tasty rating and a 1.5 thumbs up in the cheapness department. Most dishese were in the 5-6.50 range.

Pho Hung
This was a usual friday lunch except I was late.
Where: 2 locations that I know of - Bloor west of Avenue and Spadina north of Dundas where we went
What: #22 Pork Sugar Cane concoction with rice vermicelli - 7 bucks + tax and tip
My almost 10 bucks:
I don't like pho but I like this place because of its bun. I usually get a chicken and spring roll based bun but I misordered (see note about being late). Nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised by this surprise dish. It was quite tasty. There's nothing special about this place but it is good and if you're looking for pho (my pho eating friends like the pho here) or bun then this place should definitely make the list.
For those interested, this restaurants symbol is the same as Pagolac in Edmonton. It must be a classic symbol but I'm not sufficiently culturally aware to know what it is. For me though the place has come to mean good food.
