Another phillips square place. The pizza menu is extensive and all are baked in what appears to be an authentic wood burning pizza oven. If there is a crowd, go for a jug of the local brew.
First time around, I had a veggie with mushrooms, zucchini etc. It was only so so. Last week, I went with broccoli rabe, tomato and mozza and whole wheat crust. The tastiness level was high and the $12.50 pizza was probably enough for two somewhat light eaters.

Classic Louie's Pizzeria
I went to a little event on Friday night and we ordered some pizza from Louie's (mid-townish). Tastiness factor was high with the veggie pizza (carmelized onions, spinach and mushrooms with pesto sauce). The meat-lovers people had the onions with two kind of processed beefiness. They also seemed to enjoy.
Anywho, highly recommended, but perhaps not as cheap as Domino's etc.

Random Pizza Joint in Mississauga
Last week I went out for lunch with my friend/ex-co-worker Gordie. This time it was his pick and we went to a pizza place by the Giant Tiger on Erin Mills north of Dundas. It has a name similar to Pizza Nova - but I'm pretty sure that is was something else.
I had a the special -1 topping pizza sub with pop for $5. Moderate amounts of saucy-cheesy-pinaepply tastiness. It was rather large, so I brought home 1/3 for Ian to take care of as a pre-dinner snack.
I would go back again for a quick lunch - although wouldn't give it a hearty recommendation!

Looking Where you Walk
At yesterday's Blue Jays game Janice snagged a foul ball (Snag may not be the correct term - she apparently ran away from the ball as it neared her and then managed to recover and grab it after it hit a seat. Surprising behaviour because when I go with her to games she wants me to be always ready to jump and run towards the ball).
That's great but even better was that Burnett picked up the seven strike-outs that earn us a free slice from Pizza Pizza (The deal is that if the Jays get 7 or more strikeouts on a Friday or Sunday home game you get a free slice of pepperoni on the subsequent Monday). Anyway we headed out at lunch today to get our free slice and we were going to blow the bank to buy another slice of cheese pizza for Janice. Quite the meal. As we were walking out of the building though, I happened to see a Jay's ticket on the ground. Luckily I stopped and examined it and saw that it was for Sunday's game! Another free slice. So we ended up having a completely free lunch! It seems like the moral of the story is that it pays to look where you walk.
For the record, I agree it is mildly disgusting to pick up dirty paper from the ground but, hey, for 3 bucks, who wouldn't.

The poor customer service "Diet"
So this week I was in Hawkesbury working at a very exciting steel plant and thus had to frequent the local restaurants for meals.
Poor customer service prevented me from procuring some tasty fast food.
I stopped in at pizza pizza in town and there is one lady cleaning the bathrooms and the other guy cleaning out the drink cooler. The dude says something to me in french, I don't really speak but the gist of it was, just a minute. I say ok, but then wait about 5 minutes and finally walk out. It's been a while since I worked at DQ, but I think that serving customers in a timely fashion if more important than cleaning the joint!
One night I went to the Valleyfield River for some kayak action and stop in at McD's across the street for a drink. I wait about 5 minutes to get my order in, but then the pace is 1 car every 8 minutes or so. There was conveniently no porkchop between the order thingy and the food giver so I took off! It would have been like 5 cars x 8 minutes = 40 min? After 2 cars and 16 min wait I was fed up!

Free Pizza Pizza
Ian and I went to the Jay's game on Friday night and since AJ Burnett struck out 7+ batters, we got a free slice at Pizza Pizza on Monday.
I partook at lunchtime in Mississauga and was a little disappointed. I went with cheese, and it was moderately untasty - not like my delicious veggie square I used to eat in Hamilton when I was out there.
They also seemed to have some head office types standing around in the dining room and they were blocking the seasoning shakers that I like to use. Not so cool!!! In the end, it was too much food and I was feeling kinda queasy for the afternoon.
Ian went for lunch downtown and had the pepperoni - he felt extremely tasty but not enough food.

Boston Pizza
Tonight after softball we went for a "patio party" at BP's. Was a pretty good deal. For 5 of us, we got a free platter with french fry thingys, cheese bread, wings and dry ribs with two dips! For free!!!
None of the stuff was all that great, but the price was certainly right.

Free Pizza
Free pizza always gets a few thumbs up from me even if it is from pizza pizza. Today thanks to the Blue Jays 7+ strikeouts on Friday, I scored two slices of pepperoni pizza at Pizza Pizza
The positive points
- it's free
- the first slice was ready right away
The negative points
- the second slice took quite a while (since they had to make a new pizza)
- the delay meant I had to walk home in the rain
I guess the rain isn't completely Pizza Pizza's fault though. While I was there some people brought their tickets in and then paid extra to get pizzas that are better than pepperoni. In the past they've been dead set against such practices so it's good to see this new found flexibility. Of course I couldn't upgrade to the much loved meat lovers because of my well known cheapness issues

Good softball news (and BP's)
Good stuff point #1:
So last year, like an idiot, I left my ball glove at the diamond at the end of the last game. I went back for it the next morning and nothing. I had pretty much given up hope. I sent emails to the team to see if anyone picked it up and no one claimed to. For this year, Ian hooked me up with a loaner (undisclosed source). But then I get to the game tonight and see my old glove sitting on the bench!!! Yeah!!!!
Good stuff point #2:
The only teams my team could beat last year were the other two teams from my company. So first game out this season, we play the league champs. I was expecting the worst, but we actually beat them pretty badly!!!

The dude controlling the team budget said that he would buy us beer every time we beat a team not from our company.

To cash in on point #3, we went to BP's and had a team pitcher. They seem to have improved upon the team pitcher from my days in university - now it has a frozen ice center thing to keep the beer cool! Since there were 7 of us, we had to compromise on Rickard's light - not my favorite, but since it's free (to me) it was alright.
Also had a few southwestern potato skins. Came with chipotle chicken, bacon, cheese and drizzled with ranch dressing. Pretty tasty, but not all that much food for $8.49.

Pizzaiolo
We didn't feel like eating anything fancy so we hit queen street in search of some casual dining. Originally the plan was roti but the place we had in mind was too expensive. So the fall back was Pizzaiolo. I had the God Father with a Coke for 5 bucks including tax. Fairly reasonable I guess and the pizza was quite tasty. Unlike Pizza pizza the crust is edible and in fact was quite tasty. The only let down was that the god father only had 3 types of meat - pepperoni, bacon and ham. It seemed like the best I could do. The highlight was leaving the place. I hopped right through the window (well the window was opened so the incident was injury free)

The Best Kind of Food
I've almost fully recovered from the incidence of last weekend so I've been back to my usual habits for the most part. The week started off slow because sadly due to the weekend activity I decided to skip the union social on Tuesday. It was at Hart House instead of the Duke of York as it has been in past years and apparently the food was pretty good with some excellent lamb. Missing a free food event destroys a little part of me.
Fortunately I made up for it on Wednesday with free pizza and sushi care of marking. Unfortunately the sushi came from Sushi Time not Sushi on Bloor due to time constraints so we ended up paying more for less and worse sushi. Lesson learned ensure they order the sushi ahead of time. I called in the order and in retrospect I should have offered a little bit extra money to Sushi on Bloor for them to squeeze our order in. Maybe it wouldn't have worked but I should have tried. The pizza pizza was about the same as always. We got everyone's favorite meat lovers plus chicken. Of course it was the first to go.
Thursday was free food event #3. It was the grad school christmas party. I ordered twenty pizzas and that proved to be more than sufficent. I didn't ask anyone for the favorites and instead just mixed it up with a bunch of things. Meat lovers + chicken was of course a hit but so was char broiled burger pizza. I don't think anyone had that before and it was pretty good. Just like a burger. Leftovers provided for free food event #4 on Friday lunch. After 2 days of all you can eat pizza, I was up for something else but some people felt we shouldn't ignore the pizza. Friday I ate some of the potatoe chips too and those seem to have left me with a multi-day stomach ache. No more pizza or chips for a while.

Boston Pizza
My car was in for servicing so Ian took the go train to mississauga so he could drive his car home. On the way back, we went to BP's. Ian as usual went for the meatiest item on the menu. The Meteor Pizza. About 4 meat items thrown on top and meat sauce as the pizza sauce. He seemed to enjoy. I had some penne with creamy tomatoe sauce. Also pretty good. A "Very Tasty" rating and no thumbs up in value. As Ian says, "how can you charge $15 for spaghetti and meatballs?"

Domino's
When Ian lived in Vancouver, we had a movie watching, dominos pizza party. I remembered it being pretty fun, so we had another one last night..5 years after the original....
Overall, not quite the same amount of fun-ness we remembered, but the pizza was still pretty tasty. Ian had pepperoni, I had pinaepple...total cost for 2 mediums was $15.78 so not a bad deal at all considering it will be enough for 6 meals or so.
Maybe the problem was the lack of pizza bread???
Watched Lara Croft Tomb Raider. I thought pretty good, Ian thought terrible and no plot at all.
Overall, not quite the same amount of fun-ness we remembered, but the pizza was still pretty tasty. Ian had pepperoni, I had pinaepple...total cost for 2 mediums was $15.78 so not a bad deal at all considering it will be enough for 6 meals or so.

Pizza Pizza = not so good
Not that this is news to anyone, but pizza pizza does not make a very good pizza. Aceeptable at best. I swung by on the way home from the doctor today and had a slice of cheese. It only slightly cheered my up after I found out my festering spider bite on my arm may have to be cut out/off if the anti-biotics do not cure me by Wednesday. I wish Ian were here, I think that's a visit I could use some moral support at! Ha ha!
On Fridays and Sundays if the Jays get 7 strikeouts and you happen to have a ticket, you can go and pick up a free slice the following Monday. Overall I would upgrade the pizza to "Tasty" but only because it is such a great value.

BP's
Ian picked me up from the airport last night and we went to Boston Pizza. Ian went with the usual lasagna but I tried the cactus nachos. Pretty tasty and some good greasy goodness. Lots of cheese, two kinds of dip, and a few veggies on top of some home made potatoe chip type things.
Ian complained a bit about the noodles in the lasagna, but didn't let that stop him from eating the whole large thing in about 5 minutes!
Service was ok, we had what appeared to be a new server so he wasn't too on top of things.
Anywho, BP's is generally good for a quick meal, drink or snack! I also own their income trust, so all the more incentive to go! Last night, Ian and I spent about $20 but I probably made like $0.00001 back :)
